Oral Report

Good Evening, everyone. Today, I am excited to present an overview of my newly developed website, “CareGivers Care,” designed to provide valuable assistance and support to caregivers of individuals with autism. The platform was inspired by and aims to address the following research question, “In what ways can we provide adequate support to reduce the amount of stress and societal exclusion of caregivers?”. Through extensive research and careful observation of this community, I believe by addressing the multifaceted needs of caregivers, providing information that should be accessible to all regarding important topics and fostering an open and safe space where caregivers feel comfortable seeking help or engaging in conversations, we can reduce the stress of caregivers and promote inclusivity, both educating and supporting them. So to start off, it has been found that Autism Spectrum Disorder caregivers experience greater stress than other neurodevelopmental disorders (Colombet, 2022). Despite the recognition of Autism Spectrum Disorders for more than 75 years, impacts of this diagnosis on caregivers have not yet been fully identified. However it was found that social support and active coping combat this pattern of poor mood and stress while boosting mood and mental state (Lai & Oei, 2014). Which leads me to introducing the website as it addresses the issue of lack of resources by providing much needed information on a range of topics.

To conclude, this website hopes to serve as a one stop shop for a range of information. Since this is a diverse and complex disorder, the issues faced by caregivers from different backgrounds will vary. In hopes to support that, this website serves as a beacon of information but also a dynamic space for caregivers to feel comfortable and supported. I invite you to check out the website yourself and possibly share it with anyone it may be helpful for, and join to support and empower caregivers of individuals with autism. Thank you!
